refashioned t-shirt

Mi piacciono moltissimo le magliette a tinta unita (mi piace tutto a tinta unita) in supersconto, e questa è stata pagata 1 euro al mercato. Prima che ci mettessi mano io non aveva quelle patacche sul davanti!

I am a big fan of cheap monochrome t-shirts, and I got this for one euro at the local market. Before I put my hands on it, it didn't show those ugly patches on the front!

Era la taglia bambini quindi non mi stava proprio comoda, ma in ogni caso sapevo che l'avrei risistemata da capo a piedi. Purtroppo però in corso d'opera gliene sono successe di ogni: prima mi sono arrischiata con delle decorazioni che chiaramente non erano per stoffa e che si sono sciolte miseramente in lavatrice, poi ho cominciato un progetto sulle maniche ma si restringevano troppo, quindi a furia di taglia e stringi è uscito questo!

It was a children size, so I wasn't exactly floating in it, but I knew it would have been refashioned top to bottom so I didn't really care. The refashioning process got stuck in a few hiccup moments, like when I used evidently non-washable decorations which of course got melted in the washing machine. Then I started a project for the sleeves, which came out reduced in size and then after some cutting and trimming this is what I came out with!

Siccome però si impara sempre dagli errori, condivido con voi le lezioni che ho imparato:

1. questa colla per tessuti è fantastica: smettiamola di cucire, e usiamo questa! :D


You know one always learns from mistakes, so here I am to share my post-mistake teachings to you:

1. This fabric glue is magic - stop sewing, get this :D!

2. mi piace molto questa decorazione a rosette ed è facilissima: prendete tutti i piccoli ritagli di stoffa che avete, arrotolateli finchè arrivate alla forma che desiderate e incollateli al tessuto!

ps: dovrei aggiungerne di più?

2.I really love this rosette decoration I used and it's supereasy: get all those tiny scraps of fabrics you certainly have, just roll and roll them until you get to the shape. Then glue it on the fabric!

ps: should I add more?

pasta estiva/summer pasta

Avete in mente quelle sere estive in cui vi va di chiamare i vostri amici all'improvviso per cenare insieme, un secondo prima di realizzare che non avete poi granchè da offrire?

Mi è successo qualche sera fa. Avevo avocado, erba cipollina e philadelphia: li ho amalgamati con un pò di acqua di cottura della pasta, e ne è uscito un piattino estivo niente male! Indubbiamente, dei croccanti pistacchi avrebbero aggiunto il tocco finale, quindi lo riproverò! E se avete altri varianti, suggerite!

you know those summer nights when you give your best friends a call which goes like 'ehi, wanna come for dinner?', just for the sake of being together.. but you don't really have much in your fridge?

Well, I had avocado, chives, and quark cheese which I all mixed up and moistened by adding some boling water.. and they made up a pretty tasty summer pasta! Some crunchy pistachios would have added a lot to the taste, so I'll try it once more! BTW, feel free to drop suggestions for more options and in the meantime.. Buon appetito!

Rinnovare una t-shirt bianca/Refashioning a white tee

Oggi camminavo per il centro e ho visto questa:

E' ovviamente facilissima da fare, e anche se non sono sicura di come mi starebbe, i fiocchetti colorati sono troppo stilosi!

It's so easy to make, I'm not sure how it would fit (me, at least), but those bright coloured ribbons are soo stilysh!

gelateria buonissima! Great ice-cream shop!

Questa è in assoluto la mia gelateria preferita di Milano, purtroppo pochissimo centrale!E' in via Rombon angolo via Conte Rosso, zona Lambrate. Non sono simpaticissimi e controllate che vi facciano lo scontrino, ma il gelato è strepitoso: i gusti di frutta sanno di frutta fresca, e le creme hanno gusti spaziali tipo cioccolato all'arancia, amaretto..

This is definitely my favourite ice-cream seller in Milan. Sadly, it's not close to the city center, so you'd really have to go there on purpose. It's in via Rombon, in Lambrate station area. The owners are not particularly nice and you'd better check they give you your receipt, but the ice cream itself is amazing: fruit ice cream really tastes like fresh fruit, and they have particular ice cream like orange&chocolate or amaretto..


Una cosa che suggerisco a tutti e che, ho scoperto, si può fare in casa con maggior godimento e meno spesa, è pranzare in estate con la brioche con gelato. Basta usare (o fare!) dei panini al latte e 'imbottirli' con il gelato a piacere!

Something I suggest from the very bottom of my heart is you try ice-cream sandwich for lunch. You can make it at home, it's more enjoyable and less expensive: buy or bake French pain-au-lait and fill it with ice-cream!

trip to Val d'Intelvi

Questa è la valle sopra il lago di Como in cui passo tutto il tempo libero che posso.
Ci sono molti motivi per cui mi piace, e in un certo senso sono inspiegabili: una gita in valle è un insieme di sensazioni così diverse dalla vita di città.. a un'ora di strada da Milano.

This is the valley just above Como lake, where I spend all of my free time. There are various reasons to like it, but most of them are quite inexplicable: a trip to the valley is a mix of feelings that take you far away from city life, just one hour away from Milan.

Ad esempio, la vista dalla mia casa. Certo, il campanile di fronte è un pò fastidioso nei giorni delle feste comandate..

This is the sight from my living room. Well, having the clock tower right in front of the window can get quite annoying at times..

Dal nostro paesino, si può prendere la mulattiera e in 45 minuti arrivare al lago.

From the little village, you can walk down the old mule-track and in 45 minutes arrive to the lakeside.

Si attraversano i boschi e si incontrano un bel pò di animaletti, peccato che la mia macchina fotografica sia rimasta senza batteria!

You'll walk through the woods and meet all sorts of little animals.. too bad my camera ran out of battery!

daytrip to Como Lake:Menaggio

Cosa si fa d'estate in Lombardia? Non si arrostisce solo nelle città, anzi! Però la mia località preferita - beh non solo d'estate, ma soprattutto! - è il lago di Como: anche se non è più popolare tra gli italiani come negli anni sessanta, secondo me è una delle zone più belle d'Italia, giustamente famosa nel mondo.

What can one do in Lombardy during summertime? We not only suffer in sizzling hot cities, not at all! My favourite summertime spot - well not only in summer actually!- is Como lake: although it's no longer popular among Italian tourists as it used to be in the 60s, it still is one of Italian hot spots, and it totally deserves its world-wide celebrity.


Conosco la zona abbastanza bene, avendo passato tre anni in Val d'Intelvi, una bella valle a 30 km dal lago, e mi fa piacere condividere la mia conoscenza del posto per chi desidera fare qualche bella gita in giornata.

I quite know the area, having spent some 3 years in Val d'Intelvi, a cosy valley just 30 kms away from the lake, and I'd really like to share my little bit of knowledge for beautiful and various daytrips in the area.


La gita che propongo oggi è a Menaggio, visto che ci ho passato il weekend!

Today I'll talk about Menaggio, as I've just spent my weekend there!

Si può raggiungere Menaggio sia con l'auto che con i mezzi (treno FS o FN da Milano, poi bus C10/C20 oppure battello, bellissimo ma attenzione: non ce ne sono molti, gli aliscafi sono piuttosto cari, intorno ai 10 euro a persona a tratta, e il traghetto normale ci mette un'ora e mezza di navigazione). Ricordate però che nel periodo primaverile troverete sulla strada del lago un traffico impossibile. La statale regina infatti è stata costruita all'epoca delle carrozze e non regge molto bene il traffico pesante! Tenetene conto per programmare bene i vostri tempi.

You can get to Menaggio both by car and public transport (FS or FN train from Milan, plus bus C10/C20 or ferry boat but watch out: ferries are charming, but not frequently runned. Also, you can pay up to 10 euro per person per fare for the quick one, whereas the normal one takes more than 1 hour and a half. Bloody bus drivers wont't help you in any way, so don't be shy and ask for help or you'll get lost!). Please keep in mind that during spring and summer time you'll surely get stuck in traffic on the lakeside way: it was originally built for carriages and it doesn't get along too well with nowadays cars!


Sulla strada per Menaggio vedrete, sia dalla macchina che dal bus, alcuni tra i più incantevoli paesini sul lago: Ossuccio, Lenno, Argegno... Parlerò di alcune destinazioni prossimamente, ma raccomando qualche stop in questa gita.

On the way to Menaggio you will get the chance to sightsee many of the most beautiful lake villages of the sorroundings, like Ossuccio, Lenno, Argegno.. I will talk about some of them in the next posts, but I have picked some for this daytrip!

Innanzitutto vi consiglio di fermarvi a Villa Carlotta, a Tremezzo, di cui potete leggere qui alcuni cenni storici: è un'esperienza straordinaria, per l'incontro tra bellezza degli interni e degli esterni vista lago, e poi il giardino raccoglie alberi da frutto, piante tropicali e fontane meravigliose! L'ingresso non è economico, ma una volta nella vita va vista.

First of all I strongly recommend you stop at Villa Carlotta in Tremezzo - more info here: the blending of interiors and lakeviews is amazing, and the garden gathers fruit trees, tropical plants and fountains.. it's one of a kind! The entrance is not cheap, but do not miss it.

Dopo questa visita, recatevi a Menaggio dove potete passeggiare per i vicoli, visitare i quotidiani mercatini: non ho avuto occasione di mangiare in loco quindi non posso fornire consigli mangerecci, ma andate sul sicuro se comprate qualche formaggio locale e fate un picnic sul lago.

After the visit, go to Menaggio where you can take a stroll in the narrow streets and visit the daily markets. I haven't eaten there yet so I can't suggest any restaurant, but buy some local products and have a picnic on the lake, that'll be surely tasty!

Se è estate andare al bellissimo Lido con la piscina vista lago: l'ingresso ha costi contenuti (6-9 euro per tutta la giornata, anche meno se arrivate nel pomeriggio), e se potete strafare prendete i lettini sulla terrazza superiore: imbottiti, con ombrellone, e una vista super!!
Non dimenticate la cuffia e portate anche qui qualche snack: bar e ristorante sono ovviamente cari.

Buona estate sul lago!!

If it's summer, go to the cute Lido with the lakeview swimming pool: the entrance is affordable (6-9 euro or less if you go there in the afternoon), and if you can spend money, go for the rooftop terrace where you can get comfortable sunbeds and a stunning lakeview!
Don't forget your showercap and some snacks:the restaurant is obviously costly.
