Buon 2013 a tutti! 

Non so per voi, ma per me quest'anno il rientro è stato particolarmente traumatico.. e per iniziare in maniera soft, nonché per cominciare a disintossicarsi dagli eccessi delle feste, ho pensato di condividere una ricetta fatta in casa con ingredienti solo naturali per uno scrub al volto. 

Lo scrub mi piace e mi dà molta soddisfazione; in generale però, poiché mi piace poco spendere un sacco per prodotti di bellezza pieni di agenti chimici, preferisco preparare di volta in volta la quantità necessaria di prodotto con ingredienti naturali di uso quotidiano. Uso in particolare ingredienti commestibili: se li mangiamo, possiamo sperare che facciano bene anche all'esterno!

Getting back to the city and to everyday life has been particularly stressful for me this year; for this reason, as well as for getting detoxed after all the eating and celebrating, I thought I could share my technique for an all natural, homemade facial scrub. I absolutely prefer to make my lotions and beauty products at home, if possible with eadible ingredients: if we eat them, they're supposed to ne healthy aren't they?!

Ecco lo scrub perfetto!Zucchero grezzo di canna e olio di mandorle dolci: ingredienti semplicissimi che potrete poi riusare per mille altri scopi, che vanno semplicemente miscelati in maniera che lo zucchero non risulti né troppo secco né troppo poco rispetto all'olio. Lo zucchero di canna ha una consistenza più granulosa di quello bianco dunque esercita un'azione esfoliante maggiore (quindi se preferite un effetto più delicato potete usare quello bianco), mentre l'olio di mandorla nutre la pelle evitando che l'effetto dello scrub sia troppo intenso e che secchi la pelle. Al termine, potete eliminarle gli eventuali eccessi con un batuffolino con un pò di tonico (argh.. non sono ancora riuscita a preparare un tonico interamente naturale!)

Here is the perfect scrub: raw brown sugar and sweet almond oil! These are supersimple ingredients you can invest on, because they will come out useful in lots of ways. You simply mix them so that the sugar is nor too dry neither too scattered into the oil consistency. Raw brown sugar has a more grainy texture than the white one, so it will give you a very deep exfoliating effect; should you need a more delicate scrub, use white sugar instead. Sweet almond oil has a soothening and nurturing effect on your skin, so that the exfoliating action doesn't irritate your skin or make it too dry. Once you're done, you can rinse it off with some toning lotion (urgh, still haven't found a natural recipe for that!!!)

Fatemi sapere se lo provate e.. settimana prossima: maschera supernutriente all'olio di oliva e avocado! Buon rientro rilassante!

Albero di Natale con materiali di riciclo / Handmade upcycled Christmas tree

Credo che aggiornerò il photo challenge natalizio una volta per tutte a fine mese, altrimenti resto indietro con la pubblicazione di tutti i lavori natalizi. 

Settimane fa siamo andati al parco a raccogliere alcuni rami.. poi abbiamo aspettato che asciugassero, poi li abbiamo scartavetrati, poi abbiamo passato del gesso, abbiamo segato qua e là per avere la misura giusta, e infine con le mie manine ho preparato tante stelle origami per decorarlo!

Per quanto mi piacciano i decori tradizionali, in un appartamento di 40mq un albero gigantesco con decorazioni poi da conservare per tutto l'anno sarebbe stato impensabile: per la salvaguardia dello spazio, nonché per l'economia domestica, abbiamo preferito inaugurare la tradizione di creare ogni anno dei decori natalizi a costo zero (o molto basso), che poi possano essere buttate senza troppi rimorsi, anzi con la gioia di passare ad una stagione più calda.

Ecco il risultato! Nei prossimi giorni realizzerò una versione italiana del videotutorial per creare le stelle origami, che possono essere bellissime anche come segnaposto, ghirlande o chiudipacco.

I think I will update my Christmas photo challenge once and forever at the end of the month, otherwise I'll be too late with sharing all of my Christmas crafts!

It was weeks ago when we went to the park to collect some branches. We went home, waited for them to dry up, sandpapered and gessoed them, and chopped them to the right size. After that, I patiently realized all those origami paper stars, thanks to this wonderful tutorial.

I love traditional Christmas decors, but living in a 40 sm apartment doesn't allow you to store bulky decorations for one whole year, and anyway I preferred to handmake them with free or supercheap materials for business reasons, too. 

Here is the result! Do you like it?  What about your Christmas trees?

Guanti a manopola all'uncinetto / Crocheted mittens

Io adoro i guanti a manopola, anche perché vado in bicicletta tutto l'inverno! Naturalmente non volevo comprarli (buahahahah corporations non avrete i miei soldi!!) e ho provato a farli con il ferro circolare, che però dalle mie parti si trova solo in misura abnorme per fare dei guanti.
Allora ho provato con l'uncinetto.. è stato facilissimo!
Certo, uno dei due guantini ha una giunta di colore diverso perché la lana era finita, ma visto che erano una prova ho pensato che andassero bene anche così, e faceva già troppo freddo per farli daccapo!
Se volete provare vi spiego il procedimento: possono essere un ottimo regalo di Natale, e se prendete una lana un pò più grossa della mia si fa davvero in fretta!

Costo del progetto: 2 euro per 2 gomitoli di lana
Tempo necessario: circa 3 ore
Difficoltà: bassa

I love mittens, mostly because I use my bike all throughout the winter. Of course I didn't want to purchase them (corporations you will not have my money!) and I tried to knit them with the circular loop, but I failed cause the one they sell here in Italy is far too wide to knit socks, gloves or hats.
I then tried crocheting them, and here is the result! It was supereasy!
I know, one of the two has a differently coloured wrist: I had run out of wool and didnt't want to start them all over again. Perfect timing, considering how it's snowing here today!
If you wanna try, just leave a comment and I will share my project: they can be a very easy Christmas gift, and if your yarn is a bit thicker than mine, you'll finish them in no time!

Santa Lucia - St.Lucia: a tradition

Ehm.. spero che siate tutti gentili e non mi facciate notare da quanto tempo manco! Ma: recupererò! In effetti ho un sacco di post in cantiere. Oggi però voglio condividere un pensiero sulla giornata di Santa Lucia che io amo particolarmente per una serie di motivi:

- è il mio onomastico: non potendo festeggiare il primo nome, ripiego sul secondo, che è appunto Lucia.
- è, come al solito, una scusa per festeggiare: in molti paesi del Nord Europa è una tradizione consolidata, e anche in alcune zone della Lombardia si festeggia 'la santa Lucia' che porta i regali ai bambini.
- Santa Lucia la notte più lunga che ci sia, dice il proverbio.. quindi da domani per me comincia la risalita verso l'estate!!!

In più, quest'anno ho un motivo speciale per gioire di questa giornata: la mia collega e amica Niki è arrivata oggi alle prove con il mio amatissimo chocolate+banana bread! Stasera si festeggia!

Er.. I really do hope you will all be so pitiful to help noticing how late I am in updating this blog, BUT! I will get better: there is actually so much I'd like to write about!
I am here today to share a bit of thinking about Dec 13th, a day that celebrates st. Lucia. I am really fond of this day for lots of reasons, among which:

- it's my saint's day: Lavinia is a classical name and doesn't have a saint to refer to, I therefore celebrate for my second name, which is Lucia indeed.

- it's another good way to celebrate: lots of countries in Northern Europe have special traditions about St.Lucia, and some cities and towns here in Lombardia believe that it is her who bring the children their gifts.

- The proverb goes like this: Santa Lucia is the longest night in year (that was as closest as I could get to rhyming Italian and English!), which means that from tomorrow on summer is maing its way!

This year I have another special reason to be happy on this date: my friend and colleague Niki arrived to rehearsals today carrying some banana+chocolate bread for me, which is my favourite winter treat! We're gonna party tonight!
